Highlights from Mage Titans Valencia 2017
As an experienced web developer with over 5 years of experience working with Magento, I recently moved from Madrid to Manchester to work at Space 48. Space 48 are an amazing team and having settled in well, I was delighted to be given the opportunity to attend the recent Mage Titans conference in Valencia, Spain. It was my first time at a Mage Titans event and I had a really fantastic experience.
The volume of Magento developers in Spain is constantly on the rise, so as Mage Titans event partners, Space 48 was approached by Onestic who were keen to host #MageTitansES there for the first time. The majority of the talks were Spanish spoken, which I helped translate in parts to our Managing Director, Jon.
Some of the best talks from #MageTitansES
“From 0 to 100 with Magento 2” by Óscar Recio
We all know that when developing, every little helps. Anything you can do to speed up the process and make your life easier is worth it and this talk was full of great advice around this topic.
Oscar explained how to setup a local environment using Windows, Linux, Mac OS and/or Vagrant and talked about the best tools available when developing quality code for Magento 2 projects. He also touched on using tools like Capistrano and Jenkins for Continuous Integration for deployments, and shared some tips based on his experience developing on Magento 2.
“i18n: how can I rephrase that?” by Tadhg Bowe
This was a really fun talk where Tadhg explained how phrases can be translated in Magento 2. Translating a phrase sometimes seems easy but Tadhg showed a few examples where a simple change could result in a few hours of time wasted looking to get the expected result.
“Chatbots for ecommerce developers and managers” by Oliver Montes
This talk was all about Chatbots and how they can be used to automate developer tasks.
Although I sometimes use Google Allo, I was not that familiar with the concept of Chatbots, but this session helped me understand how powerful they can be when automating our daily tasks.
Oliver mentioned the fact that big names like Google, Amazon and Facebook (to name a few) are using and investing heavily in this technology. This is usually a pretty good indicator of the potential impact certain tools and technology can create for businesses!
Summing up
After all of the talks we went to a location near the sea to have some beers and food, and enjoy our night in Valencia with some of the #realMagento community.
I met up with a lot of friends, had some really interesting conversations, learned lots of new things, and had lots of fun. I’m looking forward to Mage Titans Manchester even more now, and here’s hoping there will be a second Mage Titans Valencia!
At Space 48 we believe in continuous improvement everyday and are proud founders of Mage Titans; a Magento developer conference which has now been rolled out across 6 countries. Specialising in Magento development and Magento 2 ecommerce strategy, our experienced Magento developers have created award-winning ecommerce websites for major brands.
